The Starkville Board of Alderman will hold its biweekly meeting tonight at 5:30 p.m. in City Hall. Of note, the first of two public hearings will be held discussing the topic of disallowing pets in city-owned cemeteries. If passed, this resolution would change the city's animal control ordinance.
This motion stems from a recommendation provided by the Starkville Cemetery Association, originating from grievances connected to the Odd Fellows Cemetery adjacent to the University Dr. and Jarnigan St. intersection.
The board will also discuss a recommendation from the Engineering Department to accept a low bid of $15,900 from JCV Construction, LLC to initiate sidewalk and alley improvements on Lafayette Street.
As always, the public is encouraged to attend and will have the opportunity for comment early in the meeting. Moreover, citizens will be allowed to express their support or concerns regarding the animal control ordinance change during tonight's public hearing.
