C Spire crews will be building infrastructure for fiber optic internet on East Lampkin Street until Saturday or Sunday, according to workers on-site. The road between the intersections of Jackson Street and Worley Street (near the Starkville Daily News) will be closed until the project's completion.
Within Mississippi, Starkville is an early adopter of the one gigabit per second (Gbps) internet speed, with the first homes becoming active Wednesday. C Spire also opened a $23 million commercial data center at MSU's Thad Cochran Research Park earlier this month.
C Spire, which held a press conference outside of Lynn Spruill's home (one of the first customers) this morning, notes that its fiber optic internet is 100 times faster than the national average. The technology uses pulses of light to transmit information.
