In the wake of Monday’s severe thunderstorms, The City of Starkville has issued guidelines informing citizens of proper cleanup. Of note, the public is reminded that no city employee shall enter private property to remove debris, with the responsibility falling to property owners to place all disposable waste curbside according to city guidelines.
As a general rule, all wood cuttings/trimmings placed curbside cannot exceed an 8-inch diameter and rigid materials cannot exceed 10 feet in length.
The following materials are NOT allowed curbside:
• Waste resulting from property clearance not considered to be trimming (e.g., stumps, logs and tree trunks) is not permitted curbside. Property owners are responsible for proper removal.
• Waste resulting from structural damage, construction, demolition or renovation (including “do-it-yourself” projects) is not considered household rubbish and cannot be placed curbside. Property owners, contractors and/or tenants are responsible for proper removal.
City employees will mark all inappropriate curbside rubbish or debris to notify property owners of their responsibility to remove the waste.
