About the Planning Department
The Planning Department of Starkville is responsible for examining and advising on development plans, developing regulations, and policies associated with development, and offering crucial administrative and technical support to several committees and commissions. These include the Planning & Zoning Commission, the Board of Adjustments & Appeals, the Historic Preservation Commission, the Landscape Advisory Board, and the Development Review Committee. Moreover, we extend our support to other city departments in using and interpreting the Unified Development Code. The department is also responsible for creating and maintaining GIS data used in mapping. These include the Official Zoning, City Limits, Ward, Historic Districts, Leisure and Recreation District, and various other maps. Furthermore, we provide guidance to developers and the general public on zoning and development issues.
